The applicant also assistas the Laboratory Manager in preparation of administrative reports, and may be assigned other duties as per the Laboratory Manager and/or Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for the overall supervision of the Medical Technicians. Ensures all specimens are processed and obtained in a timely and efficient manner Provides technical guidance to technicians when quality control or instrument problems occur Maintains inventory of expendable items and prepares requests to replenish supplies Writes and updates procedure manuals in the Specimen Collection and Point of Care Ancillary Testing Services areas, including Phlebotomy Approves/disapproves accrued leave and recommends disciplinary action where necessary Trains and/or oversees the training of technicians in the use of new procedures and instrumentation Establishes performance plans and competencies for all staff Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-08 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note:

Specialized
Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
1)Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic, and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or 2)Technician support work in a closely related field, e.g. biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled; responsible for preanalytic specimen processing and moderate complexity testing in the areas of Urinalysis, Phlebotomy, FIT Immunochemical Assay Testing, and Point of Care Ancillary Testing; processes and collects data for quality indicators for work performed; supervising Medical Technicians; designs and prepares appropriate instrument maintenance logs, reviews logs monthly, and assuring that proper routine maintenance is being performed by the technicians; and develops training plans for multiple level positions. OR, Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have two years of graduate education or a master's degree. Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. Physical Requirements:
Work is primarily repetitive manual procedures related to receipt, processing, preparing specimen collection bottles (100ml each) and blood viles and keyboard data entry. Tasks typically require extended periods in a seated position. This position requires regular lifting of specimen storage racks weighing 15 lbs. and occasional lifting of packages and disposal boxes weighing up to 45 lbs. from floor to table height. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
