LEAD MEDICAL SUPPORT ASSISTANT

Duties include but are not limited to:
Serves as the primary trainer for the Medical Support Assistants (MSA) in the Acute Care Nursing Service, which includes:
verification of physician orders in CPRS, serving as receptionist, providing telephone assistance and triage of telephone calls, scheduling appointments for tests, procedures and surgery, receiving patients on the ward/unit and initiating the admitting process, as well as routing patients to their destinations. Conducts on-the-job training of new employees in all functions of the MSA until the employee is qualified to assume responsibility of a unit independently. Perform in the capacity of relief clerk during the absence of regularly assigned employees on wards/units. Conducts in-service programs for ward clerks based upon his/her knowledge of what specific emphasis is needed in each section, and knowledge of the new policies, procedures, or changes in Health Care System activities. Coordinates with each inpatient MSA's Supervisor to achieve a program of ongoing training and competency maintenance for inpatient MSA's, in an effort to stimulate individual personal growth and development opportunities. Report to each inpatient MSA's supervisor on performance, progress and training needs of inpatient MSAs, and on disciplinary problems observed during the course of the workday. Responsible for coordinating with the professional staff on all administrative matters. Instrumental in the orientation of new residents and new nurses to the administrative policies and procedures of the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System. Assists with the completion of MSA scheduling, timekeeping, certification of MSA competencies, as well as preparation of reports and audits. Work Schedule:

Experience:
In addition to the basic requirements, applicants must have one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06 Advanced MSA). Specialized experience at the GS-06 level would include:
Ability to collaborate, communicate, set priorities, and organize the work in order to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations; Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, both orally and in writing, in order to meet program objectives. This may include preparing reports in various formats and presenting data to various organizational levels; Advanced knowledge of the technical health care process as it relates to access to care; Advanced knowledge of managing a clinic. This includes independently utilizing reference sources, decision making, and empowering the team to collaborate and resolve problems within a complex systems environment; Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with operational activities that affect the patient flow, patient care, and the revenue process; Advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of language utilized by clinicians. Assignment:
The Lead MSA is responsible for the coordination of Advanced MSA assignments and workflow found in an interdisciplinary unit. The Lead MSA is responsible for daily workload assessments, assigning work, and assuring proper staffing coverage; evaluating training records; and determining training needs of MSAs to provide support across interdisciplinary settings. The Lead assists the unit with complex and non-standard procedures, including clinical flow processes related to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to:
ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments; providing guidance to staff members, to include changes in policies and procedures; creating and maintaining employee work schedules; and acting as a liaison among Advanced MSA staff, patients, and other interdisciplinary staff to resolve day-to-day conflicts. Additionally, candidates must also demonstrate the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) below:
Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff. Ability to provide staff development and training. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work across multiple clinics. References:

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
