This position is located in Reno. Information about Reno and the surrounding areas can be found at Reno/Sparks Chamber of Commerce. U.S. Citizenship is required. Security Clearance/Background Investigation is required. Direct deposit is required. The duties of this position include, but are not limitied to:
Serves as the national senior specialist for wild horse and burro research in the areas of population control, health and handling, population estimation, herd genetic diversity, and habitat assessment for setting population management numbers.
Leads multi-agency team to develop research studies and/or evaluate submitted research proposals.
Serves as the senior national technical specialist in the area of wild horse and burro aerial surveys and population estimation. Organizes and analyzes aerial survey data and other resource information necessary to produce a scientifically supportable and defensible population estimate for wild horse and burro management decisions.
Develops reports and briefing papers concerning WH&B; surveys in response to congressional and public inquires. Also, delivers briefings to the National WH&B; National Advisory Board, management personnel, and interested public entities.
This position falls under the Professional and Scienctific group coverage and IOR standards located on the Office of Personnel Management's qualification standards website. The job specific questions relate to the following knowledge, skills and abilities required to do the work of this position.
KSA 1: Knowledge of wildlife biology including but not limited to population demographics, genetics, behavior and inter and intra species social interactions, nutritional requirements, and plant/animal ecological interrelationships and wildlife and range management principles, theories, and practices.
KSA 2: Knowledge of research study design, investigative principles, statistical analysis and the study of results, interpreting findings, peer review practices and scientific study publication.
KSA 3: Knowledge of and experience with biological and aerial survey techniques to conduct accurate inventories of wild and horse burro populations, and analyze, interpret, and evaluate results.
KSA 4: Extensive knowledge of automated data storage and analysis programs, statistical packages, wildlife habitat modeling, wildlife habitat preference test, global position systems, and geographical information systems technology.
KSA 5: Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

A combination of experience as described above and graduate education as described above which, when combined, is equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirement.

2. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have:
GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11) of the position to be filled such as experience working in a wildlife program or a wild horse and burro program specialist and conducted in wildlife or wild horse and burro aerial population abundance surveys. Co-authored a peer reviewed wildlife or wild horse and burro research paper that was prepared for publication in a scientific journal.
GS-13: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-12). such as working as senior wildlife or wild horse and burro program manager or as a research scientist or statistician. Has designed, analyzed and conducted aerial population abundance surveys on wildlife or wild horses and burros. The principle author of one or more peer reviewed wildlife or wild horse and burro research papers that were published in a scientific journal.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
