Your OpportunityYou will be based in Reno or Elko, Nevada and assist with field work throughout northern Nevada.
This will include conducting and assisting with environmental studies for a variety of resource, infrastructure, and development projects.
The work to be completed will depend on projects contracted for the 2024 field season.
Your Key Responsibilities Conduct surveys for wildlife, including but not limited to surveys for migratory nesting bird, nesting raptor, Greater Sage-grouse, pygmy rabbits, small mammals, bats and western burrowing owls.
Conduct vegetation surveys, including but not limited to riparian plants, noxious and invasive weeds, and vegetation community mapping.
Perform surface water and groundwater sampling for flow and water quality.
Perform construction monitoring.
Collect water and soil samples for submittal to independent laboratories for analysis.
Assist in completion of technical reports and data management.
Actively participate in maintaining Stantec's safety culture.
Work in remote locations performing sampling and surveys.
Travel will be required.
Your Capabilities and Credentials Must be comfortable working outdoors for extended periods of time and camping in remote locations.
Capable of safely operating vehicles in off-road conditions including driving in snow and mud.
Ability to work in all weather conditions and must be able to walk/hike in rough terrain for extended periods of time.
Working knowledge and experience navigating via Global Positioning System devices, topographic maps, aerial photographs, etc.
is preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong note-taking skills and attention to detail.
Basic understanding of technical writing skills.
Experienced at working well in a team atmosphere and independently, as required.
Working knowledge of field sampling techniques is a plus.
Identification of Great Basin plant species is a plus.
Must have the willingness to learn new skills while conducting field work.
Must be conscientious, organized, and disciplined.
Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships within their technical team.
Good driving record and valid driver's license required.
Prior to employment, this position may require the successful passing of a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
This position is also subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
Education and ExperienceTechnical degree/diploma/certificate in natural resources, rangeland ecology, wildlife biologist, or an equivalent related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 0-2 years of experience.
Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather such as extreme heat, cold, precipitation, and dry conditions.
Camping and overnight travel will be required.
