The Occupational Therapist Evaluates patients, prepares treatment plans, routinely assesses results of treatment, and provides timely, clinically accurate and appropriate documentation of care provided. The incumbent evaluates for, issues, and instructs patients and/or caregivers on use of adaptive and durable medical equipment. Serves as a consultant to other clinical and non-clinical staff within department, within the community, and to other medical center staff regarding the scope and skills of occupational therapy. Actively participates in patient care planning and discharge rounds as necessary for their area of assignment and works effectively with interdisciplinary team members and other allied health care staff for coordination of the patient's care and needs. Provides patient care that is appropriate to the cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient. May travel to community-based outpatient clinic(s) in response to patient and program needs. The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Functions/Scope Clinical:
The incumbent is responsible for independently providing occupational therapy assessment of the Veteran's physical, occupational, cognitive and psychosocial functional deficits via referrals received from appropriate healthcare providers, or patient self-referrals where appropriate. Educational:
The incumbent self-identifies their continuing educational needs, keeps abreast of advances in the field, and ensures that they provide care in accordance with current research and contemporary occupational therapy practice. Maintains an active license to practice occupational therapy. Offers interdepartmental and intradepartmental in-services, attends and participates in department and section in-services, medical center educational offerings, annual mandatory training, and professional conferences and workshops. Administrative:
The incumbent is responsible for completing all encounters for workload (patient care) in accordance with national and local directives and guidelines, including correct CPT and diagnosis code usage. The incumbent ensures inventory and supplies needed for patient care are maintained and follows departmental procedures for the ordering and re-ordering of supplies. Customer Service:
Effectively communicates with and utilizes other disciplines (e.g., nursing, medicine, other allied health professions) to facilitate treatment planning and implementation. Collaborates with divergent multidisciplinary team members in a manner that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care, and participates effectively in team meetings, treatment planning discussions and conferences. Supervisory Controls:
While functioning as an independent professional, the incumbent is under the direct supervision of the Rehab Supervisor and receives administrative guidance/mentoring as it relates to occupational therapy. Additional guidance regarding daily operational activities related to occupational therapy care are guided by the needs of the HPACT and HCHV Program. Work Schedule:

a) Graduation from a degree program in occupational therapy approved by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) or predecessor organizations to include an internship (supervised fieldwork experience required by the educational institution). The ACOTE is the only accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Effective January 1, 2005, ACOTE accredits only master or doctoral degree programs in occupational therapy. Certification/Examination:
Possession of written documentation that the individual has passed the entry-level certification examination for OTs which is administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). NOTE:
Effective January 1, 2007, candidates for certification as an Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR) must be a graduate from a post-baccalaureate accredited occupational therapy program approved by NBCOT or be a graduate from a degree program recognized by NBCOT or considered equivalent to the American Occupational Therapy education standard. Licensure:
State Licensure/Certification/Registration/Trademark (hereafter referred to as state regulatory requirement). The OT must hold a full, current, and unrestricted state license, certification, or registration or trademark to practice occupational therapy in a State, Territory, a Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia. NOTE:
The OT must maintain full, current and unrestricted license, trademark, registration, or certification as required by state statute. The majority of states have determined that licensure is the most effective approach to regulating occupational therapy practitioners. As of the date of this standard, 47 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico license OTs; two states-Hawaii and Michigan-have registration laws; and one state, Colorado, has a title protection trademark law. Loss of Credential. An employee in this occupation who fails to maintain OTR registration and meet state regulatory requirements must be removed from the occupation, which may also result in termination of employment. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation). Experience:
2 Years of progressively complex experience. Grade Determinations:
GS-12. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, completion of one year of progressively complex experience and a broader scope of experience equivalent to the next lower grade directly related to the position being filled (GS-11), or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a degree in occupational therapy or a directly related field. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics (KSAOs). In addition to meeting the experience or educational requirements for the GS-12 grade level, the candidate must fully demonstrate the following KSAOs:
Knowledge of occupational therapy principles and techniques consistent with current clinical standards based on OT theory and evidence based practice. Knowledge is inclusive of physical, occupational, cognitive, and psychosocial functional deficits. Ability to collaborate and communicate orally and in writing with all internal and external stakeholders. Ability to use critical analysis, clinical reasoning, and creativity to independently solve complex problems related to adapting and modifying assessments, treatment plans, activities and procedures to meet the needs of patients. Skill in procuring, fabricating, adjusting, adapting, and modifying orthoses, splints, and adaptive equipment References:

This position requires light lifting and carrying, approximately 35 pounds, reaching above shoulder height, use of fingers, both hands required, walking and standing for 6 hours.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
