At the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA), our Lead Airport Operations Specialists (formerly known as Lead Security Specialist)work on the front-line as a critical component in the security of the Airport from the front curb to the terminal building and beyond.
In this role, you will use your well-honed security and customer service skills when working with the traveling public, airport employees, and our tenant partners each and every day.
As a Lead, you will operationally oversee and direct the daily work of Airport Operations Specialists.
What you do in this role makes a difference! Lead Operations Specialists perform daily security duties including inspections, airfield gate access control and monitoring, response to alarms, mobile patrol of Airport owned areas, and maintaining an orderly flow of traffic in front of the Airport terminal building.

There is one (1) opportunity available.
Applicants must be available to work all shifts (day, swing, and graveyard) 7 days a week - including holidays.

Shift assignments are generally determined by seniority using a Shift Bid System.

Responsibilities:

Provide a highly visible presence in front of the terminal, at airfield access gates and within other secured areas of the airport by observing and reporting unusual activities, behaviors and other extraordinary circumstances in order to maintain standards of safety and security as required by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Facilitate efficient and effective communication between Airport Operations Specialists, Airport Operations Supervisor, Airport Duty Manager and Manager of Terminal Operations.
Oversee and be accountable for the daily operations and work assignments of staff on shift by monitoring and reviewing activities to ensure that staff resources are optimally placed.
Conduct and provide training to staff in proper work methods, processes, and various types of inspection to ensure the airport's compliance with federally mandated regulations.
Provide input on staff performance and serve as performance coach when directed.
Provide support to the Airport Operations Supervisor by assisting with the administration of tasks including, but not limited to, scheduling, training, data input, audits, notifications, and SOP review.
Resolve problems including parking violations, accidents, unattended vehicles, unattended children, pets in vehicles and persons needing medical assistance; provide assistance as requested once qualified personnel arrive on the scene.
Conduct ID badge verifications as necessary in order to report unusual activities, behaviors and other extraordinary circumstances to the appropriate personnel.
Educate and coach Badge Holders on proper security procedures as necessary.
Provide customer service by answering questions, providing instructions on parking procedures, giving directions to passengers and the general public and providing up-to-date information on local events.
Manage common use resources (gates, ticket counters, baggage carousel assignments) for airline use using computer-based program, ensures accuracy of the Flight Information Displays (FIDS), and coordinates with IT for items that need remedy.
Maintain activity logs, provide incident documentation, and completes other required paperwork/reports in order to keep management informed of operations and activities.
The physical demands/working conditions may include:
The ability to stand and/or walk for an extended period of time, with little to no sitting, ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch down, stoop, crawl, twist, climb; ability to use safe lifting techniques to occasionally lift/carry/push/pull 25-pound objects.
Sufficient clarity of vision to distinguish objects both near and at a distance of 20 feet, peripheral vision, depth perception, night vision, and color vision, to identify vehicles, license plates, markings, and access badges.
The ability to reach with hands and arms with sufficient dexterity to enable regular use of hands and fingers to operate, handle and feel various types of objects, tools and/or controls.
The ability to respond quickly to emerging situations.
Performing work around moderate to high noise levels, vibrations, dust, fumes, gases, moving mechanical parts, and running/moving vehicles.
You will be expected to wear appropriate personal protective safety equipment including reflective apparel and other safety gear (uniforms and safety gear provided).
Entry Salary:
$23.
28 - $26.
30 per hour based on experience, with opportunity for annual step-based increases up to a range maximum of $33.
57 per hour.
In addition, employees working any hours between 6pm and 6am receive a shift differential of $2.
40 per hour.
Initial salary placement will be based upon experience and qualifications.
This is an hourly and overtime eligible position.

Minimum
Qualifications:
Education:
Graduation from high school or equivalent certificate.
An equivalent combination of directly related security experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis.
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience involving regular and consistent direct public contact/communication giving or providing information and instructions both orally and in written form.
Previous experience as a security guard with heavy emphasis on customer service is preferred as is leading the daily activities of a team.
License:
A valid driver's license is required at the time of application.
