Position Purpose:
Under the direction of the supervisor on duty, accurately performs delegated laboratory tests in a timely manner as specified by laboratory policies and procedures and in accordance with federal and state regulations.Enters results in the laboratory information system and reports results after review by a clinical laboratory scientist.Other support tasks will be required such as telephone answering, specimen collections, sample handling, special procedures, customer support, and some clerical duties.All efforts are directed towards expediting the reporting of patient data to aid the physician in the diagnosis and treatment.
Scheduling of hours may be changed, as company deems on-call hours as requested.
Nature and Scope:
Renown Health Clinical Laboratory is a 24-hour/7-days a week operation, providing laboratory services to an inpatient and outpatient population of all ages.
The major challenge in this position is to perform quality and timely laboratory tests on instruments yielding direct read out is maximized through appropriate organization of workload, completion of quality control procedures, proper specimen identification, and ensuring proper instrument/equipment operational status.The incumbent does not perform testing or make decisions requiring independent judgment.Critical values are reviewed by a clinical laboratory scientist (CLS) before reporting.All problem solving and judgment tasks will be made in collaboration with a CLS, or the supervisor on duty.
The incumbent must consider the age of the patient when any patient contact is initiated.Must be able to communicate with a diverse patient population and their families when in contact.Positive customer service behavior is expected at all times.
The incumbent must be knowledgeable of and observe all safety requirements in a laboratory and hospital knowledge must be maintained for all procedures that are required to be in work related skills must be demonstrated annually.
The incumbent will be responsible for performing other non-testing activities such as phlebotomy and specimen processing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Effective communication skills, both written and oral, to discuss and obtain patient information with appropriate suggestions and requests to staff in a respectful manner.

Maintains corporate compliance as set forth in the Renown Health Corporate Compliance Program, the Renown Health Code of Professional Ethics and department specific Laboratory Compliance Program as defined by laboratory policies and external regulatory standards.
Possess thorough knowledge of general laboratory medicine, in all areas in which competency will be required such as the following areas: (a) Phlebotomy;(b) Hematology;(c) Coagulation;(d) Chemistry;(e)Blood gases;(f)Urinalysis; and (g) Microbiology set up.
Ability to manage a heavy workload with constant interruptions organizes workload to establish proper priority for all specimens.
Ability to monitor testing instruments throughout the day and ensure proper operation by performing preventive maintenance, and by notifying a Clinical Laboratory Scientist when further troubleshooting is required.
Thorough understanding of QC techniques and the application required to evaluate a data point.
Working knowledge of laboratory safety including, but not limited to universal precautions blood borne pathogen standards, chemical hygiene plan, hazard communication standards, fire safety, and MSDS classifications.
Ability to communicate with nursing and other laboratory staff regarding specimen collection and/or patient problems.
Ability to confer with Clinical Laboratory Scientists to make final decisions regarding the validity of test results, acceptability of specimen, and validity of instrument operation.
Ability to process specimens and handle specimens in a manner that provides for optimal specimen integrity with regard to testing requirements.
Understanding of inventory control and notifies supervisor when supplies are low to prevent stock-out situations.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.Maintain confidentiality of medical and personal information of all customers.
Flexibility to accept night and weekend assignments.Scheduling of hours may be changed, as company deems on-call hours as requested.
Familiarity with personal and/or laboratory computer systems.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum
Qualifications:Requirements - Required and/or Preferred
Education:
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English.Appropriate education to obtain and maintain the Medical Lab Technician license in the State of Nevada based on licensure criteria.
Experience:
Recent general laboratory experience is preferred.
License(s):
Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Medical Laboratory Technician license within seven (7) months from date of hire.Failure to apply for licensure by the start date, or denial of licensure, will result in discharge.Requires national certification, or eligibility to certify as MLT (ASCP) or equivalent.MLT license may be substituted with higher level lab licensure; ie,a CLT supersedes an MLT.

Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days,the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
